CASSETTE: A Documentary Film about the Cassette Tape

A few months ago, the term “cassette tape” was taken out of the Oxford English Dictionary. As recorded sound continues its love affair with the downloadable, ethereal digital file, the tangible artifact is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

CASSETTE: A Documentary Film about the Cassette Tape” from filmmakers Zack Taylor and Seth Smoot aims to shed a much needed light on a medium that brought so much joy to music purveyors over the years.

The State of Social Media and Social Media Marketing in 2012

Social networking is the number 1 activity online.

Even though Google gets the most visitors, Facebook is where most of us are spending our time. And it’s not just about Facebook anymore. We are spending a lot of time on LinkedIn, YouTube, Tumblr and Twitter. While there are some clear major players in the social space, the social media universe continues to expand and 2011 was a banner year for the idea of an “Interest Graph.”

In 2011, we saw Google launching Google+ and Pinterest grewing at an astounding rate. Facebook launched “Timeline” and “frictionless sharing” with partners like the much anticipated Spotify. Facebook also acquired design companies and the team behind Gowalla, showing the company’s intent to provide a consistent experience across devices and becoming a more prominent player in the mobile space. 2011 was also a big year for social IPOs: From LinkedIn to Groupon and Zynga, small tech startups are becoming public companies. There is much speculation around the existence of a bubble, and some say growth cannot continue because social networks are running out of users. However, Facebook is not yet public and we still don’t see a clear exit for Twitter.

There might be saturation, but social media has changed the way we live. And this means social media is no longer a question for marketers. Companies of all sizes have accepted and even embraced the importance of social media. Investments are starting to increase and companies are now building teams to tackle the new risks and opportunities that social media has created. While Facebook and Twitter ad spending is expected to grow only at a decreasing rate, advanced brands are leveraging more digital dollars for their social media marketing strategies and tactics. While “social” has been an afterthought for many years, marketing campaigns and programs are starting to feel inherently social.

The excellent presentation “The State of Social Media and Social Media Marketing in 2012” above by Esteban Contreras is about the state of social media and social media marketing on January 1st, 2012 – and you should really check it out.

2011 – A year in food and drinks

A 2011 years retrospective of a different sort.

In January 2011 I started taking pictures of food and drinks regularly. Well, actually that did not mean me literally taking a photo of every glass of water I have been drinking since then. In fact I tried to capture food and drinks I consumed on occasions that meant to be somehow special for me and others. I uploaded all those pics using the picplz app, which at that time was the best solution – owning an android device only but wanting to use all the amazing filters like the oh so present iPhone Instagramers do all the time.

During the year I changed my mobile devices from the HTC Legend to first an iPhone 3G and then to an iPhone 4S.

The idea of taking food pictures started to amuse and actually inspire me more and more. I thought it was amazing capturing not only the very special moment, the location and the person you’re with – but also in a way the taste of it.

When telling people about my new little project, everyone got really excited about it – so I thought, why not just go ahead, at least for a year. Now after one year has passed I actually feel that this food retrospective album thing really became beautiful. It really tells the story of my life, gives room for interpretation but can also stand there for itself – plain and simple – pretty straight-forward.

Me myself, I always get somehow emotional when browsing through those pictures – of course in a positive way.

End of 2011 marks also the end of my picplz food & drinks album – but will be the beginning of something completely fresh and new – you can bet your life on that.

So… less writing – why not check out my gallery over on Facebook for yourself => “2011 – A year in food & drinks” and spend me a “Like” here and there.

BTW: all the food that is presented in the gallery is vegetarian as I am not into eating meat or stuff like that at all.

You find a short overview of the 285 pictures below. Amazing, isn’t it? :-)
